1991
Top 5 sporting events from 1991
5.  April 30th, 1991 -- Philadelphia 76ers 121, Milwaukee Bucks 100:  This was the first time I was ever at a series
clincher of a professional sporting event.
4.  July 29th, 1991 -- Philadelphia Spirit 110, Miami Tropics 108:  The first time I ever saw a team win a national
championship of any kind as the Spirit clinched the United States Basketball League trophy.  Paul "Snoop" Graham led the
Spirit with 25 points while Tim Legler added 21.  Lloyd Daniels had a game-high 27 for the Tropics.  The next time I would
see a national championship clincher was the 1994 NY Rangers Stanley Cup triumph.  That's a major difference in the size
of an event.  So this night was just a preview of things to come.
3.  March 3rd, 1991 -- Atlantic 10 tournament evening doubleheader -- Temple 56, West Virginia 53 AND St.
Joseph's 90, Rutgers 87 (OT)
:  This year's Atlantic 10 tournament started to put the conference on the map and the
quarterfinal round games this evening were a big reason.  First the Owls, for the second year in a row, potentially needing a
win to sew up an NCAA tournament bid, defeated West Virginia.  Mark Macon provided the heroics with a three-point
bank shot with two seconds left to win.  Then in the nightcap, the lowest seeded St. Joseph's Hawks defeated top-seeded
Rutgers 90-87 in overtime.  The winning bucket again came with two seconds left in the game and again was a
three-pointer -- by Rap Curry.  Rutgers was still given an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
2.  March 24th, 1991 -- North Carolina 75, Temple 72:  In this elite-eight affair of the NCAA Tournament, Mark
Macon does everything he could to try to advance Temple to the Final Four.  But his three-point shot before the buzzer
to tie the game falls short and the Owls are turned away.  This would be my final collegiate basketball game as a
collegiate myself.
1.  March 22nd, 1991 -- Temple 72, Oklahoma State 63 (OT):  My first NCAA tournament action turned in to a heart
stopping affair as 10th-seeded Temple and number-three Oklahoma State go overtime.  But Macon keeps every Owls
fans' heart ticking as he scores the first six points of overtime -- and eight points total in the extra session -- to advance
Temple past the sweet 16.
Strange facts from 1991
1.  The Philadelphia Wings Major League Lacrosse game is one of four Lacrosse games I've been to.  The next one
wouldn't occur until February, 2002.
2.  After the Phillies game on Labor Day, I didn't attend another sporting event until January 19th, 1992.
