Kansas and Colorado
I guess a 7-day all expenses paid trip during the holidays isn't so bad, even if it's to such rural areas such as
Manhattan, Kansas and Colorado Springs, Colorado.  I made the trip with the Rutgers basketball team as it played
two games over the course of the week -- against Kansas State on December 28th and Air Force on the 31st.  We
got lucky with the weather.  Not a flake of snow fell from the sky and the temperature ranged during the day from the
40's to the 60's.
How warm was it in Kansas on
December 28th?  Well, I'm wearing a
short sleeve shirt without a problem.
The Kansas State campus, including
the student union, which consists of a
bowling alley, is in the background.
This was taken in downtown
Manhattan, Kansas, otherwise
known as Aggieville.  Does
anybody have any idea why
they call this area Aggieville?
Especially considering that a
Big 12 rival of Kansas State is
called the Aggies.
At practice the night before Rutgers'
basketball game against Kansas State.
Rutgers basketball radio play-by-play
man Bruce Johnson and I knew prior to
the game against Kansas State there
were good things coming.  Sure
enough, RU came away with a 76-66
win.
After flying in to Colorado Springs the
morning of December 29th, the RU
basketball team the next day took a
tour of the US Olympic Training
Center.......
.....and I was invited to tag along.
Then from the training center, it was
on to downtown Colorado Springs.
On December 31st, Rutgers played
against Air Force.  OK, it wasn't quite
THIS dark in the gym during the game,
but the arena's lighting does need to
be upgraded.
